Don't make me use my feminist voice

I'm Fed Up

I'm Fed Up

I am fed up

I am fed up of;

Not being taken seriously because I am a young woman

Having my opinion and contributions disregarded

Having to work extra hard for more than a year to prove I am competent at my job because I am a young woman

HR hesitating to hire me because I could be going off to have kids anytime. Apparently I lose years of experience having kids so I can never compare to my male counterpart (funny hey, I must have chosen to be born with a womb)

Knowing that my little girl will also earn 17.5% less her male counter parts in 15years if I don't do anything

Being asked if working too hard wanting to make a difference will not affect my marriage, when will you have a child, Are you wearing the pants in your home?

Statements like, "you work so hard, you're amazing but how is your marriage, your husband must really love you because it seems you never have time for him?" Would a hardworking man be asked if their wife is coping with their hours?

Statements like, "she has to put in more hours if she wants to make partner and that might mean sacrificing her marriage and not having kids?"

Young girls having sticking fingers down their throat after meals to remain skinny. The concept that one has to be skinny to be attractive, a cheerleader, in the popular girls group and to be good enough, (feeding into the mean girls culture).

Sexism in the advertising industry - the concept that sex sells, food ads with naked women

Young women idolising Hollywood actresses and singers who have body image issues, use drugs and are just plain scandalous

Being told that if I was your husband I would put you back in your place

Tokenism - young women committees that are built in to boards as a matter of principle and wanting to look good to funders

Male colleagues expecting me to serve them a cup of tea 'as a favour' yet they never asked their male counterparts to do this so called favour

My thoughts are scattered this month because this has been a long time coming hence burst out evidenced by not having a neat chronological piece of writing. I appeal to every young woman out there who is fed up of the issues above and many other issues affecting women out there, to reflect and take a stand. It's time to embrace feminism again. It is unacceptable to have men get away with treating women as inferior beings in this day and age and we should take a stand. BE FED UP TOO
